With the recent published success of the Hospitals at Night pilot, the scheme initially introduced in 4 trusts is set to reform the way in which hospitals operate during the night across the UK. In order to comply with the European Working Time Directive, the number of hours junior doctors are able to work per week has been severely limited. This has had most impact on the out-of-hours period in hospitals, for which junior doctors have previously been largely responsible. The Hospitals at Night scheme has demonstrated that by careful coordination of specialists in multidisciplinary teams and the efficient sharing of workload between staff and shifts, it is possible to: preserve and enhance the training received by junior doctors; and ultimately improve the quality care received by patients at night.

This critical one day event offers the opportunity to receive practical guidance on how to coordinate and effectively implement out-of-hours care in your hospital. With a comprehensive selection of expert speakers, this event will provide:

  • Clarity around the intentions and reasoning from the Department of Health
  • An outline of the lessons learnt throughout the scheme
  • A large selection of practical case studies highlighting the successes, as well as the obstacles encountered by trusts
  • Insight into the most appropriate way to design and implement Hospitals at Night to suit the needs of your trust
  • Expert advice on limiting legal risks and ensuring patient safety
  • Guidance on the most effective ways to monitor and audit the scheme once it is in place
